Meet Dr. Tara
Zandvliet, MD.
Pronounced “Zand-fleet.” Known to her patients as Dr. Z.
Specialty trained in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Integrative Medicine, Dr. Zandvliet cares for individuals and families through every stage of life.
A Stanford graduate, she earned her MD at New York Medical College and completed a double residency at the University of Texas Medical Center in Houston. Her experience spans hospital medicine, community health, and her own independent practice.
She has a special interest in patient education and helping people take an active role in their own health. Fluent in English and Spanish.

Ask Dr. Z a questionHow do I make an appointment?
Book online through the existing appointment calendar, available 24/7. An appointment is required. The calendar opens a short time in advance, and several slots are kept open for same-day visits. Availability varies. Calling to book is reserved for people without internet access.
Do you accept insurance?
The practice does not bill insurance and does not accept Medicare or Medi-Cal. Patients may submit for out-of-network reimbursement, depending on their plan; this is not possible with an HMO or EPO. Payment is due at the start of your visit.
What forms of payment are accepted?
Cash, in-state personal checks, HSA cards, and credit or debit cards are accepted. Charges are based on the medical services provided, not the appointment length. Labs and vaccines may cost extra.
Can children and new patients book a visit?
Dr. Zandvliet sees all ages, from newborns through seniors, including insured and uninsured patients. Obstetrics and surgery are not offered. New-patient disability evaluations are not offered.
Are consultations available remotely?
For patients outside the San Diego area, Zoom consultations are available through Dr. Zandvliet’s separate consulting practice, IndependentHealthcare.com.Visit Independent Healthcare
What if I need care after hours?
There is no after-hours phone line. For emergencies, go to an emergency department or call 911. For non-emergency concerns that cannot wait, seek urgent care.
